This was my second venture into publishing. The marketable area was considerably closer to home and the content intended for a more general audience.

I applied the same procedure as Local Kids Press to initiate its startup by creating a prototype, strapping on a tie and hitting the streets to sell advertising.

Once it was funded, I went into production mode creating the ads and piecing together the content. Once those were done it was off to press and then to distribution.

I originally intended to be bimonthly, twice a month, but that proved to be too ambitious so I cut it back to once a month.

Eventually I took on two salesmen and added a distribution company that delivered door-to-door while continuing to deliver small quantities to local businesses.

As far as a startup goes, it lasted a year, made a bit of money, but grew in popularity. I was quite pleased but had to shut down since my wife was still active duty Navy and it was time for a transfer.

Once production was ceased, I got inquires as to “Where is my Pick Me Up?” That was quite flattering.
